The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported a massive win for national fiscal policy, revealing that its 2025 annual revenue collections exceeded targets by more than ₦13.1 billion.

Alongside this financial milestone, the Command showcased a formidable haul of seized contraband valued at over ₦2.7 billion.

In his debut press briefing since taking the helm, Acting Customs Area Controller Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole detailed the Command’s performance on Thursday at the Ibadan headquarters. He credited the results to a pivot toward intelligence-led operations and a “zero-tolerance” approach to border incursions.

Financial Milestone: Surpassing the 2025 Target

The Command’s revenue performance signaled a significant tightening of collection mechanisms. By the end of 2025, the Oyo/Osun axis had collected 15.22% more than its projected revenue target.

  • December Surge: In the final month of 2025 alone, the Command generated ₦8.37 billion.

  • Performance Drivers: Adewole attributed the ₦13.1 billion surplus to increased trader compliance, modernized monitoring, and professional integrity among the officer corps.

Enforcement: The ₦2.7 Billion Contraband Haul

The ₦2.7 billion in seizures reflects an intensified crackdown on the South-West’s high-traffic smuggling corridors. The Command intercepted a diverse array of “uncustomed” and prohibited goods, including:

  • Petroleum & Logistics: Large consignments of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and smuggled vehicles.

  • Consumer Staples: Foreign parboiled rice and imported spaghetti.

  • Health & Safety: Illicit drugs, expired pharmaceutical products, and used tyres.

  • Textiles: Bulk quantities of used clothing.

“The activities of smugglers amount to economic sabotage and pose serious threats to public safety,” Deputy Comptroller Adewole warned. “The Oyo/Osun Area Command remains fully prepared and determined to enforce compliance with Customs laws.”

Strategic Outlook for 2026

The Oyo/Osun Command occupies a critical position in Nigeria’s trade infrastructure, overseeing land borders and inland container depots that link the South-West to the rest of the federation.

Adewole emphasized that 2026 will focus on inter-agency synergy, expressing gratitude to Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi and the Oyo State Government for their continued logistical and political support. The Acting Controller reiterated that while the Command is committed to “facilitating legitimate trade,” it will remain a persistent barrier to those attempting to bypass federal regulations.
