UNIJOS Directs Students to Vacate Hostels Following Post-Curfew Unrest in Plateau State

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has ordered all students to immediately vacate the campus and return home following heightened security concerns in several areas of Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

The directive was announced on Wednesday by Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya in a statement citing increased tension in neighbourhoods surrounding the institution after the easing of the 48-hour curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government.

The curfew had been put in place after the deadly gunmen attack in Angwan Rukuba on Palm Sunday that claimed several lives.

University management noted that the heightened tension posed a potential threat to students and staff, prompting the immediate evacuation of hostels.

The Plateau State Government has provided transportation services for students, with special approval for movement even during curfew hours.

According to the arrangement, students living within Jos and its environs are to be evacuated starting from Wednesday afternoon, while those living outside the city will be evacuated from Thursday morning.

Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya assured that university management would work to ensure normalcy returns to the university community as soon as possible.

The development reflects the ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, where recurrent violence has frequently disrupted academic activities and daily life.

Students have been urged to comply with the directive for their safety while the university monitors the situation closely.
