The University of Jos has postponed examinations originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (today and tomorrow) due to heightened security concerns triggered by a deadly gunmen attack in the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area.

In a statement issued this morning, the university’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, said the Vice Chancellor directed the rescheduling “in view of the Sunday night attack by gunmen on residents of Angwan Rukuba and the consequential tensions it has generated in and around the area.”

He appealed to staff and students to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, and report any suspicious activities to the university security unit.

The decision comes after the violent incident on Sunday evening, which led to loss of lives and injuries. In response, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew across Jos North Local Government Area, effective from midnight on March 29 until April 1, 2026, to restore order and prevent further reprisal attacks.

Angwan Rukuba, a community close to the university with many students residing there, has been particularly affected by the unrest. The curfew is intended to allow security agencies to intensify patrols and investigations without the risk of escalation.

This latest development underscores the recurring challenge insecurity poses to education in Plateau State. Institutions in the region have frequently had to adjust academic activities due to violence, curfews, and fear of reprisals.

Security forces have been deployed to the area, and authorities have urged calm while investigations into the attack continue.

Students and staff affected by the postponement are expected to receive new dates for the examinations soon, though the university has not yet announced specific rescheduled timelines.
