UCL: Inter, United, Bayern All Drop Vital Points

Manchester United were reduced to ten men before Ademola Lookman sealed Atlético Madrid’s 2-0 win, Barcelona came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1, and Club Brugge won a seven-goal contest away to Inter as Tuesday’s Champions League fixtures produced 32 goals in nine matches.

Atlético took the lead after 53 seconds when Pablo Barrios finished Alex Baena’s cutback, and they held 62 per cent of possession. United, who had Bryan Mbeumo among their threats, were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Alejandro Grimaldo struck the angle of post and crossbar with a free-kick, and Johnny Cardoso’s apparent second was ruled out after a VAR review found a handball by Marcos Llorente in the build-up. Lookman, introduced in the 70th minute, scored in the 79th to seal the result. It was Atlético’s first points of the league phase and extended their unbeaten run against United to five matches.

At Rams Park in Istanbul, Galatasaray led in the 28th minute when a shot from Aleksey Batrakov deflected off João Cancelo and into the net. Cancelo made amends by curling in Barcelona’s equaliser shortly before half-time, in the 43rd minute. Barcelona then scored three more, in the 50th, 53rd and 65th minutes, with Lamine Yamal providing two assists in four minutes. The visitors had 65 per cent of possession and 23 shots, 12 of them on target, while Galatasaray managed two in total. Victor Osimhen played the full 90 minutes for the hosts. The win extended Barcelona’s winning run in all competitions to 10 matches.

The night’s highest-scoring match was in Milan, where Brugge won 4-3 away to Inter. Brugge led in the 30th minute, Inter levelled in the 44th, and the visitors regained the lead in the 63rd and extended it to 3-1 in the 74th. Inter cut the deficit in the 81st, Brugge restored a two-goal margin in the 87th, and Inter scored again in the 90th. Inter had 27 shots to Brugge’s 16, with 12 on target to seven, and 54 per cent of possession, but Brugge’s four yellow cards compared with two for Inter.

In Norway, Viking held Bayern Munich to a 3-3 draw. The hosts led 2-0 after goals in the second and 38th minutes. Bayern replied in the 54th and 60th minutes and went ahead in the 71st, only for Viking to equalise in the 90th. Bayern had 64 per cent of possession, 28 shots and 15 corners, against eight shots for Viking.

Arsenal beat Lille 3-0, with Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze on target. All three goals came between the 64th and 71st minutes after a goalless first hour, and Lille failed to register a shot on target. Sporting CP won 2-0 away to Lens, scoring in the 22nd and 74th minutes even though Lens had 17 shots to their 10 and put six on target. Villarreal came from a goal down, conceding to Napoli in the eighth minute, to win 3-1, scoring in the 23rd, 26th and 86th minutes. RB Leipzig beat PSV 1-0 with a 75th-minute goal. Sabah defeated Slavia Prague 2-0, scoring in the 49th and 88th minutes.
