President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the deadly bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State on Monday evening, describing the attacks as the “final desperate and frantic attempts” by insurgents facing intense military pressure.
The coordinated blasts killed at least 23 people and injured 108 others.
In a personally signed statement released on Tuesday, the President expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims, the injured, and the people of Borno State.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu stated.
The explosions occurred around 7:24 p.m. on March 16 at three locations – the Monday Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover. Authorities said the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers. The incidents came hours after security forces repelled near-simultaneous assaults by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters on military positions in the area.
