Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has publicly addressed the long-running sexual assault allegations against him for the first time, as France’s Versailles Court of Appeal prepares to rule on whether he will stand trial.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) today, the 27-year-old wrote in French: “Justice looked me in the eyes and said: ‘If you weren’t famous, there would never have been a case.’ I chose to remain silent for years… Today, a story that is not mine is being told to the detriment of my family, my life, and above all, the truth.”
Hakimi added that he has been waiting for the trial since the beginning and now awaits it with impatience so he can finally speak. The post comes as the Versailles appeals chamber is expected to decide whether to uphold an investigating judge’s order for him to stand trial before the criminal court in Hauts-de-Seine.
The allegations date back to February 25, 2023, when a then 24 year old woman claimed that Hakimi raped her at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. She alleged non-consensual acts, including forced digital penetration, despite her resistance. Hakimi has consistently denied the claims, maintaining that the encounter was consensual.
His legal team has highlighted several points in his defence, including the accuser’s alleged refusal of certain medical examinations and access to her phone, as well as pre-encounter messages that they say suggest financial motives. In February 2026, an investigating judge ordered Hakimi to stand trial. His lawyers appealed that decision, leading to the current hearing.
Hakimi remains under judicial supervision but has continued playing for PSG and captaining the Morocco national team. He has not been charged, and French authorities have stressed that the process follows standard legal procedure.
