Spain Surge to Top of FIFA Men’s World Ranking After 2026 Triumph

Spain have reclaimed the summit of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, opening up a significant lead over runners-up Argentina.

La Roja, who surrendered the top spot in April, moved up one place to first with 1995.88 points following their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final at MetLife Stadium. Argentina dropped to second with 1970.37 points after relinquishing their crown.

The latest update reflects results from the 105 matches played during the tournament period, with significant movement across the top 10. Brazil rose to fifth and Morocco to sixth, both moving ahead of Portugal, who fell to seventh after a Round of 16 exit. Belgium moved up to eighth, while co-hosts Mexico climbed four places to tenth — their first return to the top 10 since March 2022 – at the expense of Germany.

Quarter-finalists Norway recorded the biggest jump, climbing 12 places to 19th – their highest position since August 2011. Switzerland also gained five places to 15th after reaching the last eight.

Other notable climbers included Egypt (up 5 to 24th), Paraguay (up 7 to 34th), Congo DR (up 5 to 41st), South Africa (up 6 to 54th), and Ghana (up 8 to 65th). Teams that dropped included Türkiye (down 5 to 27th), Korea Republic (down 7 to 32nd), Panama (down 10 to 44th), and Czechia (down 8 to 48th).

With Chile and Peru entering the top 50, there are now nine South American teams in that group. UEFA still dominate with 25 teams in the top 50, followed by CAF (8), AFC (4), and Concacaf (4).

Nigeria remains at 26th with no motion on the ranking, after missing out on qualifying for the just concluded world cup.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on 7 October 2026.
