The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 semi-finals produced high drama on January 14, 2026, as Senegal and Morocco booked their places in Sunday’s final.

At the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, Senegal overcame Egypt 1-0 thanks to a decisive strike from Sadio Mané in the 78th minute. The Lions of Teranga dominated the contest, enjoying 63% possession and registering 12 shots, four on target, while restricting Egypt to just three efforts, their first coming as late as the 84th minute.

Coach Pape Thiaw praised his side’s control but admitted missed chances kept the game tense. Egypt’s talisman Mohamed Salah was largely subdued, struggling to influence proceedings and reduced to frustration as Senegal held firm.

Later in Rabat, hosts Morocco edged past Nigeria in a tense encounter at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. After 120 minutes without a goal, the match was decided on penalties, with Morocco prevailing 4-2 in the shootout.

Nigeria pressed hard throughout, but the Super Eagles could not break down Morocco’s disciplined defense.

In the shootout, Nigeria converted two of their attempts but missed twice, while Morocco’s takers were almost flawless, sealing their passage to the final.

The result ended Nigeria’s campaign at the semi-final stage, while Morocco, buoyed by home support, will face Senegal in Sunday’s showpiece final as they aim to lift the trophy on home soil.
