Ghanaians are set to enjoy a second consecutive fuel price reduction this month, with the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) projecting declines from Friday, January 16.
Projected Price Drops (per litre/kg):
- Petrol: Down 1.26%–2.30% → ~GH¢11.75
- Diesel: Down up to 2.10% → ~GH¢12.45
- LPG: Largest cut, up to 5.09% → ~GH¢12.30 per kg
Drivers of the Relief:
- Cedi appreciation: Strengthened 5.71% from GH¢11.52 to GH¢10.90 against the US dollar.
- Lower global refined product prices: Petrol (-1.07%), diesel (-0.68%), LPG (-3.40%), despite rising crude oil prices.
Current Pump Prices (Selected Outlets, Jan 14, 2026):
- Star Oil: Petrol GH¢10.56 (promo GH¢10.36), Diesel GH¢11.56 (promo GH¢11.36)
- GOIL: Petrol GH¢10.99, Diesel GH¢11.96, Super XP 95 GH¢13.97
- Shell / TotalEnergies: Petrol GH¢11.68, Diesel GH¢12.38
- PETROSOL: Petrol GH¢11.65, Diesel GH¢12.35
The cuts follow earlier reductions in the first pricing window of January and intensifying competition among oil marketing companies (OMCs), particularly aggressive pricing by Star Oil and state-owned GOIL.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) welcomed the emerging “price war” as positive for consumers, offering much-needed relief amid economic pressures.
